Summerside native Erin Carmody headed back to national Scotties Tournament of Hearts

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Erin Carmody is headed back to the 2019 national Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The 30-year-old Summerside native is the third stone for the Jill Brothers-skipped rink, which defeated the Mary-Anne Arsenault team 6-5 on Sunday morning to win the Nova Scotia provincial women’s curling championship.
Brothers, Carmody, second stone Sarah Murphy and lead Jennifer Brine will compete in the 2019 Canadian women’s curling championship on home soil in Sydney, N.S., from Feb. 15 to 24.
Team Brothers, which curls out of the Mayflower club in Halifax, completed play in the provincial championships with a record of 6-2 (won-lost). The rink’s title-clinching win avenged a 7-4 loss to Arsenault in Draw 2.
Carmody, who threw skip stones while Kathy O’Rourke called the game, was part of Team P.E.I. that finished runner-up to Jennifer Jones in the 2010 national Scotties. Carmody was named the recipient of that year’s Sandra Schmirler Award as the event’s most valuable player.
