CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Sock It Away will resume his remarkable three-year-old season as he takes on the preferred pace field this afternoon at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 15-dash program has a 12:30 p.m. start time with Sock It Away saddled with Post 5 in Race 14. Marc Campbell is back in the race bike for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford as Sock It Away will look for his 19th win of his sophomore campaign. The three-year-old son of Pang Shui has yet to taste defeat in 2018 with more than $82,000 in seasonal earnings.
The pacer will tackle four foes in the $2,650 preferred pace, including top invitational pacer Czar Seelster, who has Post 2 with Kenny Arsenault at the controls. Also in the field is Rockin Indy (Corey MacPherson), Winter Blast (Jason Hughes) and Rollwithitharry (Ron Matheson).
Race analyst Les MacIsaac sees no reason Sock It Away cannot extend his win streak after defeating this group in his two latest races.
“Sock It Away has tackled the big boys for his last two starts and had either of them been fights they would have been stopped, that's how easily he won,” MacIsaac said. “Other than the likely short price there's not much to dislike.”
Race 8 will see the fillies and mares open pace for a $2,350 purse as Elektra Express returns to the East Coast for new trainer Jennifer Doyle. Hughes will drive the four-year-old daughter of Western Paradise, who was a top two- and three-year-old in the Atlantic Stakes program the past two years before leaving to compete in the U.S. late last year. Other top entries include Collective Wisdom (Drew Neill) and Prettyndangerous (David Dowling).
Burn Out Hanover makes his Atlantic Canadian debut in Race 9 as the morning-line favourite for new owner-trainer Jeff Holmes of Orwell. The three-year-old son of Well Said is out of the great pacing mare Burning Point and will be looking for a new lease on life from Post 1 with Arsenault in the bike after struggling recently on the Ontario circuit.
