O'LEARY, P.E.I. — O’LEARY -- The Silver Fox Curling Club entries have advanced to the championship finals of the P.E.I. Provincial Curling Club Championships this afternoon at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.

The Melissa Morrow rink scored five in the sixth end of their semi-final against the Tammy Dewar rink from Montague Monday morning and rode that to a 9-5 victory in a game that ended after seven ends. The teams had traded deuces through the first four ends. Morrow blanked the fifth and then put the game out of reach in the sixth.

The Silver Fox men’s representative, Tim Hockin, stole a single in the tenth for a 4-3 win over Montague’s Matthew MacDonald rink. It was Hockin’s first lead in the game. MacDonald blanked the first three ends before taking a deuce in the fourth Hockin tied the game in the fifth but MacDonald regained the lead in the sixth. Hockin scored singles in each of the next two ends to advance to the 2 p.m. final against the Dennis Watts rink from Charlottetown. Watts went through the seven-team men’s round-robin with a 6-0 record to earn the bye to the final. Because Watts takes an undefeated record into the playoffs, the Provincial Curling Club Championship rules require that Hockin would need to beat him twice to take the title. If Hockin wins the 2 p.m. game there will be a winner-take-all game at 6 p.m. Otherwise, a Watts win at 2 p.m. will give the Charlottetown rink the provincial title.

Morrow now faces the Bobbi-Jean Boylan rink from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in the women’s 2 p.m. final. Boylan and Morrow had both finished round-robin play with 401 records, but Boylan was awarded the bye to the final because of her round-robin win over Morrow.
