The only head coach in Island Storm franchise history will be the Magic’s head coach and general manager of player operations for the new National Basketball League of Canada franchise. The announcement was made on Wednesday.

Salerno, the league’s coach of the year in 2013, led the Storm to four Atlantic Division finals in six seasons, advancing twice to the final. Salerno told The Guardian in early June that Storm owner Duncan Shaw informed him on May 24 that he couldn't continue to honour the veteran coach’s contract, which was set to expire on Sept. 9.

Salerno then started the process of looking for new employment and had calls from teams around the circuit.

“To be able to sign with an expansion franchise and start working from the ground up is something that was very enticing to me,” Salerno said. “I’ve been coming to the (Moncton) Coliseum for the past six seasons as an away team, and I have seen first-hand how passionate metro fans are about the game.”

With the creation of the Magic, the Moncton Miracles cease to exist.
