CAVENDISH, P.E.I. – Andrew Reid, Sherry White and Jeff Cooke are the division leaders heading into the final round of the Cooke Insurance P.E.I. Amateur Golf Championship.

Reid, a Cole Harbour, N.S., native, shot a 1-under 71 during the first round of the men’s amateur on Saturday at Green Gables Golf Club in Cavendish. Reid was 4-under on the front nine, including acing the 173-yard par 3 eighth hole.

The men’s competition became a two-round event after Friday’s round was cancelled due to heavy rain and lightning.

New Haven’s John Walsh and Charlottetown’s Curtis Hall round out the top three after rounds of 73 and 74, respectively. Kensington’s Tim Yorke, Montague’s Todd McGowan and Charlottetown’s Brodie McGregor are typed for fourth after rounds of 3-over 75.

Yorke and McGowan are also tied for the mid-amateur lead.

White has a five-shot lead over Cornwall’s Fiona Thompson after shooting a 7-over 79 on Saturday. She is 10-over 154 after the first two rounds. Thompson had the best second round, shooting a 77 on Saturday.

Cooke is two shots up on Steve Ball for the senior lead.

Cooke of Stratford carded a 3-over 75 while Ball of New London shot a 77. O’Leary’s Randy Bernard and Charlottetown’s Malcolm Reid are tied for third after rounds of 78.
