CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – There’s a tie atop the Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball standings.

Karla Yepez had 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist to lead the host UPEI Panthers to a 70-64 victory over the Cape Breton Capers. The game was worth four points in the standings. Both teams have 7-1 records and 18 points.

Reese Baxendale had 14 points, Jenna Mae Ellsworth 10 while Jane McLaughlin and Kimeshia Henry each chipped in nine as the Panthers won their fifth straight game. Carolina Del Santo had 10 rebounds, seven points, two assists, two blocks and a steal.

Hannah Brown had 24 points and 18 rebounds to pace the Capers. Madison Munro chipped in 12 points and Mackenzee Ryan added eight off the bench.

The Panthers held 25-19, 40-27 and 56-50 quarter leads. Cape Breton had better shooting percentages (44.1-38.8 from the field and 42.1-36.8 from three-point land) but the Panthers had five more steals and turned the ball over two fewer times.
