McEwen, Oram receive Holland College's weekly honours

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Kathrine McEwen and Jay Oram are the Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.

McEwen, of Stratford, scored three goals during the weekend as the women’s soccer team opened the season with two wins. She began her weekend with two goals in a 10-0 win over the Dal AC Rams in the team’s home opener before scoring the only Hurricanes goal in a 1-0 victory in Moncton on Sunday versus the Crandall Chargers.
The five-foot-four centre midfielder is in her first year at Holland College and studying in the business administration program.

The ‘Canes (2-0), who are tied for the top spot in the Atlantic College Athletic Association (ACAA) standings, return host the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics Saturday at 1 p.m. and the University of King’s College Blue Devils Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games take place at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.

Oram, from Summerside, had a strong weekend in the ‘Canes baseball team’s four victories to open the season. He went 10-for-18 against Saint Mary’s and Acadia.

The six-foot-two shortstop is in his third year with the Hurricanes and is studying in the wind turbine technician program.
The ‘Canes (4-0) return to action Sunday when they visit the UNB for a pair of games at 1 and 3:30 p.m. in Fredericton, N.B.
