CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Soccer players Bethany MacDougall and Shunya Kobayashi are the Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.
Kobayashi, a first-year winger for Holland College, led the Hurricanes to their fifth straight Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) championship Sunday in Halifax.
The ACAA men’s soccer player of the year had a hat trick in Saturday’s 6-0 semifinal win over the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics. He scored the winner in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over the St. Thomas Tommies in the title game.
Holland College will host the national championship in Cornwall from Nov. 6-10.
MacDougall, a first-year winger for the Hurricanes, scored Holland College’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the eventual ACAA champion Mystics in semifinal play.
The Hurricanes are optimistic for the future with the majority of the roster set to return for next season after missing the playoffs in 2017.
