Island Storm's winning streak ends in overtime loss to Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. — Corey Allmond hit a jumper with 46 seconds left in overtime Monday for the winning basket as the host Moncton Magic defeated the Island Storm 115-110.

The Storm held quarter leads of 25-20, 50-40 and 78-70 before the Magic outscored the Storm 32-24 in the fourth quarter to force overtime during National Basketball League of Canada action in Moncton. Allmond (13), Billy White (10) and Jason Calliste (9) scored all of the Magic’s points in the fourth.

The loss ended the Storm’s three-game winning streak.

White had a game-high 27 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks while Allmond score 24 and Denzell Taylor hauled in 14 rebounds to go with 11 points.

Guillaume Boucard led the Storm with 21 points while adding nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Alex Campbell had 20 points while Sampson Carter and Malik Story each contributed 17.

Tyree White led the team with 11 rebounds and six assists while scoring nine points.

The Magic turned the ball over more than the Storm (21-13) but shot better, including from the free-throw line (72 to 62 per cent).

The first-place Magic improved to 23-11 while the last-place Storm is 8-23. The Storm host the Sudbury Five (18-17) Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
