CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland College Hurricanes women’s volleyball team returns to the court today in Bible Hill, N.S., as the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season begins against the Dal-AC Rams.
The ‘Canes return home to host Mount Allison Sunday. Both games start at 2 p.m.
Holland College (18-3) finished second in the standings in 2017-18 before losing in the ACAA semifinal in five sets to St. Thomas.
Brittany States, Philicia Johnson, Lauren Moerike and Taylor Boudreau-Deveaux return this season.
“As a returning player for the Hurricanes, I can say every new season is exciting,” Johnson said. “I do believe that we are focused, confident and determined to put what we have practised into play.”
Sophia Blanchard made the switch from basketball to volleyball, while Laura Ready returns for a second stint after playing with the ‘Canes from 2014-16.
“I’m really looking forward to heading into regular season this coming weekend,” said Ready. “We have a lot of new faces on the volleyball team this year, but each one of us brings a lot of experience. We have already built such incredible chemistry so I’m very excited to see what we can accomplish this season.”
New to the team this year are Taylor Allen, Abby Hyndman, Sara Jenkins, Zayley Murphy, Emma Sullivan and Katie Wood. The mix of veterans and rookies will be aiming for an ACAA championship on home court when the ‘Canes host the conference playoffs in February.
