CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Halifax Hurricanes broke open a close game with a big third quarter to defeat the Island Storm 117-94 Saturday in National Basketball League of Canada action at the Eastlink Centre.
The Hurricanes led 28-25 after the first quarter and 55-49 at the half, but outscored the host squad 37-21 to take a commanding 92-70 lead to the fourth.
Mike Poole scored a team-high 19 points off the bench as seven Hurricanes scored double digits. Antoine Mason had 18 points, Billy White 17 C.J. Washington 13 and point guard Clifford Clinkscales 12 and 10 assists.
Franklin Session had 21 points to pace the Storm while Chris Anderson and Chris Johnson each scored 13.
The Hurricanes shot 53 per cent (40-for-76) from the field while the Storm hit 37 per cent (34-for-93) of its attempts. The Hurricanes made 11 more trips to the free-throw line than the Storm.
The Atlantic Division-leading Hurricanes improved to 14-8 while the Storm falls to 10-13 and is 2-8 in its last 10 games.
The Storm hosts the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans Sunday at 2 p.m.
