The Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams ride the pavement this weekend as the squads travel for a four-game romp through Nova Scotia.
Saturday in Halifax, the women face the King’s College Blue Devils at 2 p.m., followed by the Hurricanes-Devils men at 4 p.m. On Sunday, it’s a 1 p.m. start for the women against the Dal-AC Rams in Truro, then the men’s game goes at 3 p.m.
The women sit 3-8 record and in a tie with the Crandall Chargers for sixth in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings, while King’s College (6-5) is fourth and Dal-AC (0-11) is eighth.
So with the ACAA championship a month away, Kassandra Little understands what these contests mean to the Hurricanes
“This weekend’s games are key to our team moving forward,” Little said. “We have been challenging ourselves and increasing our level of competition on and off the court, which will hopefully translate into a strong weekend for us.”
Lexi MacInnis leads the ‘Canes in scoring at 14.1 points per game.
On the men’s side, the Hurricanes (11-0) lead the circuit could add to the total against the sixth-place Blue Devils 3-8 and eighth-place Rams (1-10).
For Hurricanes guard Connor Therrien every game is a chance to get better as a team.
“As has been the case all year, our main focus is preparing to challenge for a conference and hopefully a national championship in the next two months,” Therrien said. “We’re looking forward to these games this weekend as they are opportunities for us to continue to improve.”
The ‘Canes enter the weekend with the highest scoring offence nationally at 111.4 points per game. Jace Colley and Martin Campbell sit 2-3 in the ACAA in scoring at 25.5 and 18.0 points per game, respectively.
