MONCTON, N.B. — The Holland College Hurricanes go for a seventh straight conference title this afternoon in Moncton.

The men’s basketball team will play the Mount Allison Mounties at 3:30 p.m. at Crandall University in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) title game.

The ’Canes took care of business Saturday, using a big second quarter to eliminate the UNB Seawolves 94-66 in semifinal action.

Fifth-year veteran Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley had a game-highs of 25 points and nine rebounds to pace the Hurricanes while Martin Campbell had 22 points.

Jordan Holness, who was named the conference’s rookie of the year on Friday, had 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks. Travis Adams had 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Connor Therrien had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Hunter Gray and Alex Giesecke each scored 15 points to lead the Seawolves.

Holland College led 18-15 after the first quarter but took a 50-26 lead to the halftime break after outscoring UNBSJ 32-11 in the second quarter. Holland College won the third 24-23 to take a 74-49 advantage to the final 10-minute quarter.

The Hurricanes shot 26 free throws while the Seawolves went to the charity stripe seven times.

The Mounties, who finished third in the regular season, beat the second-place Mount Saint Vincent Mystics 77-73 in Saturday’s semifinal. Cornwall’s Brayden White had 10 points, eight rebounds, an assist and a steal off the bench for the Mystics. Summerside’s Matthew Tanton played four minutes for the Mounties.

The Hurricanes went undefeated during the regular season and are ranked No. 1 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association rankings.

The nationals will be held in Vancouver from March 13-16.
