CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams have a rare Friday evening matchup when they host the Mount Allison Mounties.
Tip-off in the women’s game is at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
The women’s Hurricanes (3-3) sit in a tie for third in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings after back-to-back home wins against the Dal AC Rams and University of King’s College Blue Devils.
The Mounties, the defending ACAA champions, enter play in second place with a 4-2 record. This will be the first meeting between these teams this season.
Lexi MacInnis has led the way for the Hurricanes offensively. She sits second in the ACAA at 16.5 points per game while Ashley Plaggenhoef is fifth, averaging 13.8 points.
The men’s Hurricanes (6-0) are in their familiar spot atop the ACAA standings after wins against the Rams and Blue Devils. The Mounties (4-2) are part of a three-way tie for second.
Jace Colley leads the conference in scoring at 26.3 points per game while Martin Campbell is third at 17.8.
Friday’s theme is rivalry night at the Centre for Community Engagement. The evening will feature performances by the Hurricanes Dance Team, halftime competitions to win prizes and a residence challenge between the two Holland College residences, with the building with the highest percentage attendance, winning a pizza party.
