CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s volleyball teams return to the court on Sunday for two Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association regular season matches.
The men will host the UNBSJ Seawolves at 3 p.m. at Holland College while the women take on the Dal AC Rams in Truro at 5 p.m.
The men are 4-6 this season and are in third place in the ACAA standings, right behind UNBSJ who hold a record of 6-4. The Seawolves have won three-of-four matches versus the ‘Canes this season with all three victories coming in five-set matches. The Hurricanes lone victory was a straight-sets sweep on Jan. 12.
Hurricanes setter Keith Johnston looks forward to another match against the Seawolves.
“We’ve had a very competitive series with UNBSJ so far this season,’’ Johnston. “It’s always fun playing against them as we’ve developed a rivalry after several close games. I think if we play with confidence, limit our errors, and execute our game plan we will have a strong match on Sunday.”
‘Canes left side, Brett Butler, is second in the ACAA in kills per set with 3.13, while Aaron Pugh, Riley O’Keefe, and Jeff MacDonald are all having strong seasons and sit in the top-10.
The women’s Hurricanes are 10-3 this season which has them in second place in the conference, while the Rams are tied for seventh at 1-12.
The ‘Canes have won both matchups against the Rams this season picking up a win in the season opener in straight sets before winning in four sets on Nov. 17.
Hurricanes outside hitter, Emma Sullivan, stresses that Holland College must do the little things right in order to be successful.
“For our match this weekend we will have to go back to the fundamentals and really work on cleaning up and perfecting our basic skills. We will also have to bring a lot of energy to the court on Sunday versus the Rams.”
Abby Hyndman has led the ‘Canes offensively this season, she is sixth in the ACAA in kills per set with 2.52, while Brittany States is close behind with 2.22.
