CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Pre-registration is now open for the 15th edition of the Gold Cup Trot 5K Road Race.
The event takes place Friday in Charlottetown and features a fun and unique course. A majority of the race takes place on the Gold Cup Parade route with runners getting to experience having a large crowd cheering them on as they make their way around the course.
The Gold Cup Trot is not only a fun event for runners of all ages, but speedsters love this event. Many of P.E.I.’s and Atlantic Canada’s top cross-country and track and field athletes use this race as a way to cap off a summer of training.
Lee Wesselius set the course record of 14:43 in 2017. Grace Annear of New Brunswick set the women’s course record of 18:36 in 2011. Cal DeWolfe and Zoe Johnston are the defending male and female champions.
Runners can pre-register at Proude’s Shoes in the Sherwood Business Centre up until store closing on Thursday. There will also be registration the morning of the race starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Victoria Park ball diamond clubhouse, however, by pre-registering runners are entered in to a draw for a pair of Birkenstocks. Cost is $15 per individual, $50 for a family of four and $10 for each additional runner.
The race starts at 9:40 a.m. by the tennis courts and finishes between the ball diamonds in Victoria Park. All proceeds from this event will be split between Easter Seals P.E.I. and The P.E.I. Diabetes Camp. For more information visit http://raceeventguide.ca/events/gold-cup-trot-5k/ or email Rob MacKenzie at [email protected].
