CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Island Storm looks to improve its playoff chances with a win tonight in Saint John, N.B.

The Storm (5-18) trails the host Riptide (9-17 before Wednesday’s game with the St. John’s Edge) for the final playoff spot in the National Basketball League of Canada’s Atlantic Division. The teams meet again Monday for an Islander Day matinee at 2 p.m.

“Obviously, we have the chance to make up some ground,” said Storm head coach Tim Kendrick. “The head-to-head games are really like (gaining) a game and a half (with a win). . . We’d love to get the one tomorrow night.”

He said getting the road win would be a boost to the team before coming home for one of its marquee games of the season. Kendrick said the players have been working hard and understand the importance of the upcoming stretch.

“We have to come out and play with purpose for 48 minutes,” Kendrick said. “We have to be very active (and engaged) defensively.”

The Storm has been dealing with a handful of injuries this week. Tyler Scott, Alex Campbell, Tyree White, Malik Story and Guillaume Boucard have all missed practice time, but Kendrick said he hoped all can go tonight.
