CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A race combining cycling and running that is good for beginners and seasoned athletes is quickly approaching.
The Subaru of Charlottetown China Point Duathlon takes place Sunday, June 2, beginning at 9 a.m.
“Kick off the 2019 Island multi-sport season with this fun favourite,” said race director Marian Grant. “China Point offers some of the most beautiful and typical Island scenes as you run and cycle roads overlooking farmlands, dazzling blue waters and stunning red cliffs.”
The super sprint division includes a 2.5-kilometre run, a 10-kilometre bike and 1.25-kilometre run. It is for participants 12 years and older.
The sprint division consists of a five-kilometre run, a 20-kilometre bike and a 2.5-kilometre run. It is for those 16 years and older. All ages are as of Dec. 31, 2019.
“It’s a great first time event for athletes who are new to the sport and an excellent tune up for the more experienced athletes preparing for bigger events later in the year,” Grant said.
Register online at tripei.com. Race check-in is at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finisher in both junior (12-19) and senior (20 and older) age groups in each division.
The Subaru of Charlottetown Race Series also includes:
• Subaru of Charlottetown Tea Hill Duathlon on June 30.
• Subaru of Charlottetown Victoria Park Kids of Steel Triathlon on July 1.
• Subaru of Charlottetown Spud Isle Triathlon and Kids Of Steel Triathlon in Georgetown on July 13.
• Subaru of Charlottetown TriLobster Triathlon and Kids Of Steel Triathlon in Summerside on Aug. 18. It is a qualifying event for the  2020 world championship.
• Subaru of Charlottetown Brackley Beach Duathlon on Sept. 29.
