Calgary defeats Atlantic Attack for National Ringette League title

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Calgary Rath defeated the Atlantic Attack 5-3 Saturday to win the National Ringette League championship in Charlottetown.

Calgary built a 5-1 lead and withstood the Attack’s push for the equalizer in front of a near capacity crowd at MacLauchlan Arena for the final game of the Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships.
Calgary held 2-0, 3-1 and 5-2 period leads.
Shaundra Bruvall had a goal and three assists to lead Calgary while fellow captain Justine Exner had two goals, including the winner, and an assist. Jasmine Bearss and Terese Mazurkewich also scored in the victory. Lauren Chown had two assists while Nicole Prokop, Emily Foster and Lindsey Geddes each chipped in one.
Miguelle Proulx had a goal and two assists to pace the Attack while Britney Snowdon scored twice and was a threat all game. Martine Caissie had two helpers while Madisson Gaudet and Taylor Gray each chipped in one.
Breanna Beck made 53 stops to earn the win while Karine Doiron, who allowed five goals on 31 shots in 32:03, took the loss. Nathalie Poirier stopped six shots in relief.
