SAINT JOHN, N.B. — The CIBC Canada Russia Series is starting on the East Coast this year.
The six-game series has two games in each of the Quebec, Ontario and Western major junior hockey leagues with this year’s event starting Monday, Nov. 4, in Saint John, N.B. The next night the series shifts to Moncton before stopping in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
The last time the event began in the Quebec league was 2013.
“The Canada and Russia rivalry is like no other in hockey and continues to ignite passion among the players competing on the ice and for the fans following along in CHL communities across the country,” said CHL president David Branch.
“This is a showcase of our league’s best players and the stars who will proudly don the Maple Leaf at Christmas as members of Canada’s national junior team.”
Since the event first began in 2003, CHL teams have amassed a 63-25-2-6 record and have won 12 of 16 series despite coming up short last season in Russia’s first series win since 2014.
