SYDNEY, N.S. — Charlottetown’s Jonathan Murphy has been promoted by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League squad announced Sunday that Murphy is the team’s new head scout for the Maritimes. He started with the Screaming Eagles in 2008 as a P.E.I. scout and expanded his role to the rest of the Maritimes the last few seasons. Now he will lead the club’s scouts in the region.
Murphy played for the OHL’s Peterborough Petes from 1993-96. The defenceman, who was a ninth-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 1995, played for the UPEI Panthers from 1996-99.
Murphy was an assistant coach with the Charlottetown Abbies junior A squad in 2006-07, served as the Charlottetown Islanders major midget team’s head coach from 2007-10 and was an assistant coach with Team Atlantic at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The Screaming Eagles also announced Patrick Leblond will be the team’s head scout for Quebec. Leblond scouted for the team from 2013-18 and worked with the league’s central scouting this past season.
“It’s a great thing for the organization to see them reunited again and run this upcoming draft,” said Jacques Carrière, the Screaming Eagles new general manager.
