KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — The Moncton Flyers proved why they are the first-place team in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.

The Flyers overcame a 2-0 second-period deficit, rallied for three goals in the third period and then hung on to edge the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild 5-4 on Saturday night.
The entertaining New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League game was played at Credit Union Centre in Kensington.
Dominic LeBlanc scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Flyers, who improved to 28-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Coen Strang, who had a goal and two assists, scored at 15:19 of the third period to give the Flyers a 5-3 lead and that marker stood up as the game-winner.
Dylan Gill (1-1) rounded out the Flyers’ scoring.
Sam MacNeill had a goal and two assists to lead the second-place Wild (16-8-3). Seth MacLeod (1-1), Noah Griffin and Donovan Arsenault contributed single goals while Landon Clow and Alex Graham picked up assists.
The Wild led 1-0 after the first period and took a 3-2 lead into the final frame.
The Wild had a glorious chance to tie the game as Graham, positioned all alone in front of Moncton goaltender Mathias Savoie, had the puck bounce over his stick just as time expired.
Savoie made 29 saves to pick up the goaltending win. Jonah Arbing was tested 29 times in the Wild net.
The Wild travel to Membertou, N.S., to play the Sydney Rush in an interlocking game with the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League on Sunday at 5 p.m. Kensington closes out its interlocking schedule with the Nova Scotia loop in Port Hood on Friday night against the Cape Breton West Islanders.
The Wild then returns home to host provincial rival Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights (8-16-4) on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
