CORNWALL, P.E.I. – The Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix picked up a pair of weekend victories in Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League action.

The Matrix doubled the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils 4-2 on Friday and beat Moncton 7-3 on Saturday with both games occurring at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

Mid-Isle 7, Moncton 3

The Matrix used a five-goal second period to take command of Saturday’s game with Moncton.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period, but Mid-Isle led 6-2 heading to the third.

Brett MacDonald led the way with a goal and two assists while Carson MacKay chipped in a pair of goals. Aaron McCloskey and Lucas Buch each had a goal and an assist while Kyler Weeks and David Sato also found the back of the net.

Nathan Mahar and Patrick Wyand each had two helpers while singles went to Reese Wyand, Sam Bailey, Joe MacEachern, Landon Hardy, Kyle Mason and Matthew Mills.

Nicholas Frenette (2) and Nathaniel Dryden had Moncton’s markers.

Ty Arsenault earned the win while Lucas Burrows was tagged with the loss.

Mid-Isle was 4-for-6 on the power play and killed all five of Moncton’s chances with the man advantage.

Mid-Isle 4, Pownal 2

The Matrix scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Red Devils.

The game was scoreless after the first period while Pownal took a 2-1 lead to the third but couldn’t hold onto it.

Colin Goodwin tied it 3:29 into the final frame and MacKay scored the winner on the power play with 8:05 left.

Sato scored an insurance goal with four seconds to play. Mahar added a goal and an assist while Callum Pineau, Bailey, MacDonald and McCloskey each had an assist.

Michael Gallant had both of Pownal’s goals with assists going to Cole McKeigan, Will MacDougall and Thomas Docherty.

Matt Jelley earned the win while Logan Birt was tagged with the loss.

The Matrix was 1-for-4 on the power play and killed all five of the Red Devils chances with the extra attacker.

Mid-Isle (5-8-4) is four points up on Pownal (4-9-2) for third place in the five-team league.
