CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Metros exploded for four goals in a 6:42 stretch in the second period to take control of Wednesday night’s Island Junior Hockey League game.
The scoring spree gave the Metros a 4-0 lead en route to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers.
Nick Currie (1-1), Colin Koughan, Barrington Duffy and Grant MacAdam scored for the Metros, who improved to 6-7-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) and salvaged a split of a home-and-home series split after dropping a 4-3 overtime decision in Kensington on Sunday.
Cale Pierce (2), Connor Gray, Hunter Bradley, Grant Koughan, Ryan Boswall and Jordan Birt added assists.
Logan Vandervelden, assisted by Tyler Gallant and Kalib Snow, countered for the Vipers (4-5-1) in the third period.
Winning goaltender Matt Jelley turned aside 35 of 36 shots. Ben Parent stopped 40 of 44 shots for the Vipers.
