SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — An overnight race provided some early excitement at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Wednesday night.
Medici Hanover scored a 20-length romp in Race 2 as the three-year-old daughter of Sportswriter won in 1:55.1 to tie the track record for three-year-old fillies held by Elm Grove Inarush. David Dowling supplied the drive for trainer Don Milligan and owner Kent Williams of Ellerslie, Andrew Williams of Richmond and Lyndon Hardy of Coleman.
The 10-dash card was part of Governor’s Plate Week harness racing.
Atlantic Sires Stakes
Woodmere Skyroller was determined to land in the winner’s circle and made the front end hold up in Atlantic Sires Stakes’ action.
With Gilles Barrieau at the lines, Woodmere Skyroller guarded the rail in her $12,920 A event for two-year-old filly pacers and marched through fractions of 30.3, 1:01.4 and 1:32.3 en route to a 2:01.1 mile. While the filly tripped those splits, her biggest rival, Watch Me Dance (driven by Mark Bradley), sat in the pocket.
Watch Me Dance took her charge down the stretch, but Woodmere Skyroller held her off in a neck decision for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Third place went to Woodmere Nasha (Kenny Arsenault).
Ezra Express found the wire first in the other $12,920 A division in 2:03.4 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Danica Ellis of Brookfield, N.S. Tobins Choice (Gary Chappell) was second while Howmacrivercruiser (Barrieau) finished third.
The $2,500 B division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes went to Saulsbrook Ocean and driver Dale Spence, stopping the clock in 2:04.1 for trainer Joe Baxter and owner Al McNeil of Windsor, N.S., and Louis Willinger of Louisville, Kentucky.
Memorial pace
Top Of The Morning scored a mild upset in The Rocket Chief Harvey and Randy MacEachern Memorial Pace in 2:00.1 for trainer-driver Kyle Gillis of Charlottetown.
