SUMMERSIDE – “Machinthesand is back!”
That was the call of longtime track announcer Vance Cameron after the nine-year-old bay gelding by Mach Three-Fairway Sand-Run the Table registered a time of 1:55.3 in registering the fastest mile of the 12-dash card at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon. Fractions were 27.2, 56.2 and 1:25.4.
Dale Spence was in the sulky for owner Noonan Holdings Ltd. of Summerside and trainer Barry Folland as Machinthesand recorded his first win of the 2018 season.
In the featured event in Race 11, Old Buck made a late charge on the inside down the stretch to earn a trip to the winner’s circle. Old Buck, a five-year-old bay gelding by Ameripan Gigolo-Whitesand-Intrepid Seelster edged out Offshore Cowboy and Artist List at the wire.
David Dowling drove Old Buck for owner and trainer Alan MacDonald of Summerside.
Dowling and Norris Rogers each registered driving triples. Ryan DesRoche picked up a pair of driving wins.
No contest
Race 4 was ruled a no contest after an accident. It was reported later in the day that were no injuries suffered.

Mia Lotta (2:01.3 – new race-win record), Souverain (1:58.2), Scottish Light (2:00.2 – new lifetime record), Hunger Pangs (1:58.4 – new race-win record), Rash B Havior (1:58.4), O Christopher (2:00), Sendmeasign (1:59.1), Instant Shadow (1:56.4) and Allstar Seelster (1:56.3).
The total live wager was $18,148.
