CORNWALL, P.E.I. — Reese Wyand had two goals and two assists Wednesday as the first-place Mid-Isle Matrix started its Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs with a win.
The Matrix beat the fifth-place Kings County Kings 6-2 at the APM Centre in Cornwall to take the lead in the best-of-five semifinal. Game 2 goes Friday at 8 p.m. in Souris.
Lucas Buch shorthanded, Landon Hardy, Aaron McCloskey and Drew Dorion also scored in the victory. Carson MacKay had two assists while Colin Goodwin had one.
Jack MacKenzie shorthanded and Denver MacDonald scored for the Kings with Aidan Banks being credited with the lone assist.
Ty Arsenault earned the win while Drew Chapman took the loss.
Mid-Isle, which held 1-0 and 4-1 period leads, went 1-for-4 on the power play and killed all six the of the Kings’ chances with the man advantage.
