ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. — The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings continue to roll.
The Island Junior Hockey League’s leaders blasted the second-place A&S Scrap Metal Metros 8-1 Sunday for their 11th straight victory. They haven’t lost since Dec. 29.
The Kensington Moase Plumbing & Heating Vipers doubled the Hynes Paving Maniacs 4-2 in the other game of the day.
Red Wings 8, Metros 1
Isaac Callaghan had two goals and two assists while Chandler Wood had a goal and three helpers in Sunday’s victory at the Evangeline Rec Centre.
Silas Handrahan scored a pair of goals while Jack DesRoches and Isaac Knox each had a goal and an assist and Thomas Rennie rounded out the scoring. Alex Hutchinson had two assists while Stephen Smallwood, Connor Morrissey, Lucas Beaulieu and Bradley Campbell each contributed one.
Grant MacAdam from Keegan Mitchell and Drew Bowman replied for the Metros.
Luke Oliver made 27 saves for the victory while Matt Jelly took the loss after allowing six goals on 20 shots in 31 minutes. Noah Laybolt stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced in relief.
Western held 2-0 and 6-1 period leads. The Red Wings improved to 25-2-2 while the Metros are 13-15-2.
Western hosts the Maniacs (7-21-2) Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Evangeline Rec Centre.
Chase Gaudette, who finished second in the midget AAA scoring race last season with the Western Regals, could make his debut tonight with the Red Wings. He is fully recovered now after off-season shoulder surgery. Gaudette is expected to bring a lot of speed, energy and offensive skill to the first-place club.
Vipers 4, Maniacs 2
Dylan Wheatley scored twice, including once shorthanded, for the Vipers while Jesse Jay and Nick Trainor added singles.
Morgan Darbyson, Tayler Read and Riley Gallant each contributed two helpers while singles were credited to Blake Gallant and Kyle McGuigan.
Nick Steel and Ty Peardon replied with goal for the Maniacs with Ben MacIsaac, Will MacDougall, Kyle Martin and Jacob Outhouse each picking up an assist.
Ben Parent made 45 saves for the win while Nicolas Jamieson stopped 34 shots in the loss.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the Vipers took a 4-1 lead to the third. Kensington was 1-for-2 on the power play and killed all three of the Maniacs chances with the man advantage.
The Vipers improved to 12-14-3.
