SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Five Summerside Western Capitals have been recognized as all-stars by the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL).

Left-winger Brodie MacArthur, right-winger Kallum Muirhead and goaltender Dominik Tmej were selected to the all-star team while right-winger Colby MacArthur and defenceman Zach Biggar were named rookie all-stars.

The Capitals, who completed the regular season first overall in the 12-team league at 42-7-3 (won-lost-overtime losses), open the best-of-seven Eastlink North Division semifinal series against the Fredericton Red Wings (28-19-5) at Eastlink Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The MHL’s new all-time leading scorer has been selected as an all-star for a third straight season and his fourth if you include selection to the rookie all-star team in 2016-17.

The 20-year-old from Summerside led the league with a 2.12-points-per-game average, 45 goals, 17 power-play goals and 11 game-winning goals. He had the second-most assists in the league with 63 and the third-best power-play points total with 30.

MacArthur was named the Gongshow first star of the month in October and January, in addition to a second-star selection in November. The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) named him the national first star of the month in January.

Kallum Muirhead

A first-time all-star, Muirhead’s 102 points in 2019-20 was second to teammate Brodie MacArthur.

The 21-year-old from Charlottetown had the fifth most goals in the league with 36 and the most assists with 66. Muirhead had a streak of nine straight games with at least one assist from Oct. 26 to Nov. 23, tallying 17 assists during that time.

Muirhead also led the league with 34 power-play points. He had a league-high four power-play assists in a win over Campbellton on Oct. 19th and his six game-winning goals were tied for the fourth-most in the MHL.

Muirhead was named the Gongshow first star of the month in November.

Dominik Tmej

Tmej is an all-star for the third time. The 20-year-old from Bradenton, FL., and two-time goaltender of the year, tied Fredericton’s Jack Grant for a league-leading 25 wins. Tmej posted a 2.25 goals-against average, .927 save percentage and four shutouts.

Tmej, who was paired with Alec MacVicar, helped the Capitals win the Young/Knickle Trophy, in allowing a league-low 145 goals.

Tmej was named the Gongshow second star of the month in September and third star in both October and February/March.

Colby MacArthur

Colby MacArthur’s 14 goals and 30 assists in 47 games put him just two points behind Yarmouth’s Kurtis Lang for the most among rookies this season.

The 18-year-old Summerside native had the second-most assists and fifth-most goals for first-year players. MacArthur finished fourth in team scoring.

MacArthur was a territorial draft pick of the Western Capitals in the 2018 MHL Entry Draft.

Biggar started the season as a 16-year-old and finished third in rookie scoring with seven goals and 35 assists in 47 games. His assist total led all rookies and the Portage native finished fourth overall in defenceman scoring.

Biggar was selected in the sixth round, 85th overall, in the 2019 MHL Entry Draft.
