SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals have moved up one spot to No. 3 in the latest Canadian Junior Hockey League’s top-20 rankings released Monday.
The Capitals, who have a Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL)-leading record of 35-6-2 (won-lost-overtime losses), posted a 7-3 road victory over the Miramichi Timberwolves Saturday in their lone game of the week.
Of note, Caps forward and captain Brodie MacArthur passed former Western Capital and Pictou County Crusher forward Jordan Knox for second place on the MHL's all-time scoring list. MacArthur currently has 345 points and is closing in on the league record of 352 points held by former Halifax Lions/DQ Blizzard star Duane Saulnier.
The Capitals are the only MHL team to crack the national rankings this week, although the Edmundston Blizzard (28-9-7) received an honourable mention. The Blizzard split two games in Nova Scotia last week, winning 4-2 over Pictou County and losing 3-0 to Truro.
The Sherwood-Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) remain the top-ranked team and the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers stay at No. 2.
The Capitals begin a stretch of three games in four days on Thursday as the Campbellton Tigers (23-13-5) visit Eastlink Arena for the first of a home-and-home series. The Caps make the return trip to Campbellton, N.B., on Friday and then host the Truro Bearcats (19-15-7) on Sunday. All three games will start at 7 p.m.
