MIRAMICHI, N.B. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals wrapped up the 2019-20 Maritime Junior Hockey League regular season on a winning note Saturday night.
Cameron Roberts scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Caps to a 6-1 road win over the Miramichi Timberwolves.
The Caps completed the regular season atop the 12-team league’s overall standings at 42-7-3. Summerside will open the best-of-seven Eastlink North Division semifinal series against the Fredericton Red Wings at Eastlink Arena in Summerside on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Fredericton will take a 27-19-5 record into Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Campbellton Tigers (29-17-5).
Before 674 fans at the Miramichi Civic Centre, Brodie MacMillan (2), Ryan Miley and Marc-Andre LeCouffe also scored for the Capitals, who rested some veterans and played the game with 13 skaters. Marc Richard (2), Colby MacArthur (2) and Isaac Wilson added assists.
Kennedy Gallant of Charlottetown scored the lone goal for the Timberwolves (12-35-5), who finished last in the six-team Eastlink North Division. Connor McGregor, who is from Charlottetown, and Andrew Marrie set up the goal.
The Caps, who are the second-ranked team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings, held period leads of 3-1 and 5-1.
Alec MacVicar stopped 27 of 28 shots in earning the goaltending win. Olivier Charbonneau made 43 saves on 49 tests in the Miramichi goal.
Each team was 0-for-2 on the power play.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Brodie MacMillan (Caps), 2. Marc Richard (Caps), 3. Colby MacArthur (Caps).
