SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — It is a busy week at Eastlink Arena for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals.
The Capitals will host three Maritime Junior Hockey League games in eight days, beginning with a contest against the Miramichi Timberwolves on Thursday. The Caps entertain the Campbellton Tigers in another Eastlink North Division clash and the Timberwolves will make their second trip to Summerside in eight days on Thursday, Nov. 14. The start time for all three contests is 7 p.m.
The Caps, who have won five games in a row and eight of their last nine, enter Thursday’s game with a league-leading record of 13-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). The Caps hold a one-point lead over the Eastlink South Division-leading South Shore Lumberjacks (12-4-0) and a four-point cushion over the second-place Edmundston Blizzard (11-4-0) in the Eastlink North Division.
Summerside won the first two head-to-head meetings of the season with the Timberwolves in Miramichi 6-4 on Sept. 27 and 7-4 on Oct. 24.
The Timberwolves are last in the six-team North Division at 4-9-3 and are looking to get back in the hunt for a playoff spot. Miramichi is five points behind the fourth-place Fredericton Red Wings (8-7-0) for the final post-season berth.
The Timberwolves feature a strong P.E.I. flavour that includes defenceman Jack DesRoches (Days Corner) and Lucas MacAulay (Cardigan) and forwards Connor McGregor (Charlottetown) and Kennedy Gallant (Charlottetown).
