CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Drummondville Voltigeurs scored five third period goals, including four in the final 10 minutes, to defeat the Charlottetown Islanders 6-3 on Thursday night.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game, which featured Souris native Jack Campbell’s return as a member of the Voltigeurs, attracted 3,215 fans to Eastlink Centre.
Xavier Simoneau scored a hat trick to lead Drummondville while Fabian Hochegger (1-1), Nicholas Girouard (1-1) and Orlando Mainolfi also scored for the Voltigeurs.
Nikita Alexandrov (2) and Xavier Fortin countered for the Islanders, who took a 2-1 lead into the third period after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the opening 20 minutes.
Overall, the Islanders outshot the Voltigeurs 30-24. Anthony Morrone earned the goaltending win over Matthew Welsh.
Drummondville improved to 13-7-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) while Charlottetown fell to 11-5-3.
Charlottetown visits the Cape Breton Eagles (12-5-1) on Saturday and hosts the Gatineau Olympiques (4-11-3) in a Remembrance Day matinee on Monday at 3 p.m. Forward Carson MacKinnon of Summerside and defenceman Chris McQuaid of Charlottetown are members of the Olympiques.
