ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. — It’s safe to say volleyball is a big part of Ryanna Ryan’s life.
The Grade 10 student played the middle position for the Evangeline Coyotes in the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior A Girls Volleyball League in the fall. Ryanna plays both indoor and beach volleyball with the Red Rock club and is trying out in volleyball for Team P.E.I. at the 2021 Canada Games and the Francophone Games in July.
Ryanna is more than a one-sport athlete, however. She also represents Evangeline School in singles and mixed badminton and competes in three track-and-field events –100 metres, 200 metres and shot put.
As a result of her dedication and contributions, the 15-year-old daughter of Lucy and James Ryan of Urbainville has been selected as Evangeline School’s Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month.
“Ryanna works well in individual and team settings,” said Evangeline School athletic director Jason Arsenault. “She is always looking for ways to improve and is very technical with her skills.”
Arsenault went on to praise Ryanna’s ability to read her opponents.
“Ryanna is very quick to pick up strategy and to analyze the situation,” said Arsenault. “She is cool, calm and focused.”
Following graduation from high school, Ryanna hopes to continue playing volleyball and pursue a career in either paramedicine or law enforcement.
