SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Meredith Rogers has been recognized for her strong play on the field hockey pitch.

The 17-year-old daughter of Glenn and Melanie Rogers of Summerside has been selected as the Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month at Three Oaks Senior High School. She played defence for the Three Oaks Axewomen of the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior Girls Field Hockey League.

Meredith also played goal when the Axewomen’s regular goalie was unable to attend the team’s final game.

“Meredith stepped up without hesitation, playing her final high school field hockey game between the pipes for the first time in her career,” said Axewomen coach Ashley Praught. “Meredith remained calm and confident throughout the game.

“This was a true display of her team-first attitude.”

Praught praised Meredith’s play at her regular defensive position.

“Meredith is known to be consistent and reliable,” said Praught. “She has a great awareness of the game as she reads the play well.”

A Grade 12 student, Meredith is also considering playing rugby in the spring at the Summerside high school.

Outside of school, Meredith is a left-winger with the Summerside midget A female hockey team.

Following graduation from high school in June, Meredith plans to study massage therapy at the Atlantic College of Massage Therapy in Fredericton, N.B.
