Summerside, Sherwood play deciding game of junior C quarter-final tonight

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — One team’s hockey season will end tonight when the Sherwood Metros host the Summerside Cover All Construction Crunch in Game 5 of their playoff series.

Puck drop for the deciding game of the Razzy’s Prince Edward Island Junior C Hockey League quarter-final is set for 7:20 p.m. at Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown.

Summerside won the first two games while Sherwood has won the last two, including a 7-2 victory Friday in Slemon Park.

Nick Brown had a goal and two assists to pace the Metros while Marc Cummiskey, Michael Jenkins and Connor Jones each had a goal and an assist. Cameron Callghan, Jake Lafferty and Will Mingo also scored in the victory.

Brad McConnell and Ridge Crane each had two assists while Hunter Boudreau chipped in with one.

Tyson Gillis and Chandler Dawson scored for Summerside with Marc-Andre Gallant, Tyler Power and Colby Silliker each recording an assist.

Sumner Docherty stopped 18 shots for the victory while Devon Newberry was peppered with 53 shots in the Crunch’s crease.

Sherwood held 2-1 and 4-2 period leads.

The Crunch had their chances but went 0-for-9 on the power play. Sherwood was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

The winner will play the first-place Tignish Aces in the best-of-five semifinal starting Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Tignish.

The North River Flames have a 2-1 series lead over the Georgetown Tri County Insulfoam IceDogs in the other semifinal after winning 7-3 Saturday at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

Zac MacKay had two goals and an assist and Alex McCarron tallied a goal and two helpers to pace the Flames. Kyler Weeks scored a pair while Jackson Roberts and Conner Andrews each had one.

Alex Young had two assists while Griffin Hughes, Nick Buote, Ethan Handregan, Roberts and Daniel Godfrey each chipped in one.

Donovan Wyand, Dasan Knockwood and Daniel Martell scored for Georgetown. Keir Warren had two assists while Nolan Hicken, J.T. Wood and Cole Mosher each added one.

Ryan Clory stopped 19 shots for the victory while Brandon Barrett faced 40 shots in the loss.

Game 4 goes Friday at 8 p.m. in Georgetown.
