MORELL, P.E.I. — The Alley Stratford Athletics weren’t ready for the baseball season to be over on Sunday.
The A’s thumped the host Morell Chevies 9-0 to stave off elimination in the Kings County Baseball League final. The Chevies still hold a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series with Game 5 slated for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at MacNeill Field in Stratford.
Tyler Taylor threw a complete-game shutout Sunday for the visitors while Ben MacDougall took the loss in a rematch of the Game 2 starters. Stephen O’Shea threw three innings of relief.
The A’s erupted for eight runs in the second inning that included a grand slam by veteran Shawn MacDougall, who finished the day 2-for-4.
Jacob Smith was 2-for-2 and walked twice in the victory while Allister Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Adam Smith had a two-run double.
Matt Barlow went 3-for-3 to pace the Chevies’ attack. Morell had the bases loaded in the last two innings, but Taylor got out of trouble both times by getting a fly ball to left-fielder Jonathan Arsenault.
