SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — After being crowned champion in 2019, Woodmere Skyroller will look for her first win of her three-year-old campaign in Atlantic Sires Stakes action tonight at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 11-dash card has a 6:30 p.m. start time featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing. The card will feature a trio of $9,360 A divisions for the sophomore fillies in Races 2, 5 and 9 and a pair of $2,500 B divisions in Races 4 and 6.
Race 2 has Woodmere Skyroller leaving from Post 3 in a compact field of five for driver Brodie MacPhee, trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The Rollwithitharry filly was top of her class as a rookie, winning the $20,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown final last season and has a pair of second-place finishes in 2020. The field also includes Live And Let Di (Marc Campbell) and Gotta Love Cabot (Clare MacDonald).
Race 5 will see last year’s Maritime Breeders winner, Na Naa Said So, with Post 2 on the gate for the Cape Breton, N.S., connections of driver Redmond Doucet, trainer Robert MacLeod and owners Hugh MacEachern of Inverness and Ali MacEachern of Truro, N.S. The talented daughter of Westwardo Hanover easily toured the oval at Inverness in her lone seasonal start in 1:56.4.
Her main rival tonight will be the currently undefeated Red Dirt Star (Gilles Barrieau) from Post 1 in three starts in 2020.
Tobins Choice has top billing in the three-year-old pacing filly split in Race 9 with Barrieau at the lines for trainer Gary Chappell and owners Boyd MacDonald Produce of Crapaud and Daniel Ross of Belfast. The Camystic filly has already seen the winner’s circle twice this season and has drawn Post 5 for tonight’s contest. Other top contenders are Woodmere Nasha (Kenny Arsenault) and Streakazana (Marc Campbell).
Race 8 features the $2,700 Andrew Perry Memorial trot with the top five trotters on the East Coast. Freddie has yet to be defeated this season and is relegated to the outside Post 5 for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. His top rivals will be Glider Man (Arsenault) and Star Photo (Hughes).
