CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The alpine and freestyle ski events for the 2023 Canada Games will take place at Crabbe Mountain near Fredericton, N.B.
The Prince Edward Island 2023 Canada Games Host Society made the announcement on Thursday. Due to limited downhill venues on the Island, a selection process was undertaken to determine the best ski venue that would meet the Games’ training, competition and accessibility requirements. With its proximity to the Island, a summit elevation of more than 1,325 feet, and enhanced snowmaking equipment, Crabbe Mountain, located 45 minutes northwest of the New Brunswick capital, was selected.
“We’re excited to welcome Crabbe Mountain as an official venue of the 2023 Winter Games,” said host society CEO Kyle Dudley. “Our goal is to build an incredible experience for the athletes while showcasing our warm Maritime hospitality, and the team and venue at Crabbe Mountain will help us bring this vision to life.”
More than 285 athletes and coaches will be part of a satellite village in New Brunswick from Feb. 17-March 4. A location for the village has not been determined.
“The Games are an important opportunity for New Brunswick and Crabbe Mountain to showcase
the quality of our many winter recreational experiences in Central (New Brunswick),” said Jordan Cheney, general manager of Crabbe Mountain. “We are very excited to welcome athletes from across the
country to our mountain and look forward to working with the P.E.I. host society to provide an
exceptional experience.”
Venues for the snowboarding, plus cross-country skiing and biathlon have not been determined. The host society’s venue team is working through the technical requirements for the three sports and venue agreements.
