CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Braylan MacEachern and Ignacio (Nacho) Sanchez are this week’s UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.

MacEachern is a first-year winger on the women’s soccer team and a science major from Murray River. She scored two goals in the Panthers 2-1 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies.

“The two goals would be what stand out,” coach Glen Miller said of the rookie’s performance. “For my part, it was how quickly she got organized defensively. She was playing with a laser-like focus on both sides of the ball, and I believe she got rewarded for the quality mental energy she put forth.”

Sanchez is a fifth-year midfielder on the men’s soccer team and a business major from Cornwall.

Sanchez came back from injury this weekend and scored both of the Panthers goals in a 2-2 draw with Saint Mary’s.

“Nacho provided a true captain’s performance,” said coach Lewis Page, “scoring two goals and hitting the crossbar late in the game. His attacking flair was matched by his defensive intensity.”

The Panthers complete the regular season on home turf Saturday by hosting the Mount Allison Mounties at 1 p.m. (women) and 3:15 p.m. (men)
