CRAPAUD, P.E.I. — The Tyler Smith rink from the Montague Curling Rink is one win away from capturing the Pepsi provincial junior men’s curling championship at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.
Smith, third stone Ryan Abraham, second stone Jake Flemming and lead Ryan Lowery need just one win out of a possible three games on Sunday to repeat as provincial champions.
The Kevin Smith-coached rink has captured both the A and B divisions of the modified triple-knockout draw and will meet the Mitchell Schut rink from the Cornwall Curling Club in the C section final on Sunday at 9 a.m. Schut advanced with an 8-5 win over the Brayden Snow team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex in Saturday afternoon’s draw.
Schut has to defeat Smith three straight times – in the C section final and both championship-round games – to win the provincial title. The championship-round games, if necessary, will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.
In Saturday morning’s draw, scored a triple and two four -enders in an 11-2 decision over Schut to win the B final.

Junior women
Meanwhile, there are separate winners of the A and B sections of the four-team junior women’s division. Defending-champion Lauren Ferguson and her new team won the A section, but the Rachel MacLean rink, aided by an eighth-end triple, defeated Team Ferguson 8-5 in the B final on Saturday morning.
In the C section semifinals on Saturday afternoon, Ferguson defeated Clara Jack 11-2 and Katie Shaw outscored MacLean 11-10 in an extra end. Ferguson and Shaw will meet in the C final on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The championship-round games will go Sunday at 2 p.m., and, if necessary, 7 p.m.
All four junior women’s teams are from the Cornwall Curling Club.
The winning rinks will represent P.E.I. at the 2020 New Holland Canadian junior championships in Langley, B.C., from Jan. 18 to 26.
