BATHURST, N.B. — Two veterans and a rookie led the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild to their first victory of the 2020-21 New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Under-18 Hockey League on Sunday afternoon.
Team captain Alex Graham scored a goal and added an assist, third-year goaltender Josh Smith made 31 saves, and first-year forward Bates Ling chipped in with two assists in the Wild’s 4-1 win over the Northern Moose at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst, N.B.
The win, which came less than 24 hours after a 6-5 shootout loss to the first-place Saint John Vitos (4-0-0), gave the Wild three of a possible four points over the weekend.
Crosby Andrews, Sam Bowness and Patrick Shea also scored for the Wild, who improved to 1-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Carson MacKay had a single helper.
Olivier Nadeau spoiled Smith’s shutout bid at 16:20 of the third period. Smith was busy and sharp in the first period when he stopped all 17 shots directed his way.
Moose goaltender Samuel Ouellette faced 41 shots.
Each team was whistled for five minor penalties and one 10-minute misconduct.
Kensington will play two games at MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown this weekend as part of a league showcase. The Wild will take on the Moose on Saturday at 3 p.m., and will face the Fredericton Caps (2-1-0) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
