MONTAGUE, P.E.I. — The Kensington Vipers are entering this weekend’s big home-and-series with arch-rival Western Red Wings on a winning note.

The Vipers doubled the host Eastern Maniacs 6-3 on Tuesday night to improve to 4-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Third-place Kensington is two points back of the Red Wings (5-2-1), who sit one point behind the first-place Sherwood-Parkdale Metros (5-3-1).

The Red Wings and Vipers will meet at Credit Union Centre in Kensington on Friday at 7:45 p.m., and at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Three points

At the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague, Tayler Read scored twice while Ryan Richards added a goal and two assists to lead the Vipers. Dixon MacLeod (1-1), Joe MacEachern and affiliated player Carson MacKay rounded out the scoring.

Colin Goodwin and Malcolm MacEachern each chipped in with two assists.

Nick Steele, Jake MacLaren and Nolan Stewart replied for the Maniacs (0-6-0).

Kensington jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period and took a 4-3 advantage into the final 20 minutes.

Overall, the Vipers outshot the Maniacs 36-23. The winning goaltender was Jonah Arbing, and Nicholas Jamieson was between the pipes for the Maniacs.
