P.E.I. falls to 2-2 at Scotties after losing on last shot to Jennifer Jones-skipped squad

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Suzanne Birt’s last shot was heavy Monday night as the Jennifer Jones-skipped wild card entry defeated P.E.I. 9-8 in 11 ends at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Sask.

The Island squad of vice-skip Marie Christianson, second Meaghan Hughes, lead Michelle McQuaid and coach Mitch O’Shea from the Montague Curling Club is tied with British Columbia and the Northwest Territories for fourth in Pool B. Each team has 2-2 records, one win behind Ontario, Nova Scotia and the wild card team, which all have 3-1 records to sit atop the pool.

P.E.I. plays Newfoundland and Labrador (1-3) today at 10:30 a.m. Atlantic before closing out the preliminary round against the Yukon (0-4) and the Northwest Territories on Wednesday.

On Monday night, the teams traded deuces the first two ends and singles the following two ends. After Birt scored one in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead, before the teams traded deuces the next four ends. Jones scored one in the 10th with hammer to tie it and stole one in the 11th to win it.
