The UPEI Panthers split Atlantic University Sport basketball games Saturday with the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax.
UPEI’s women’s team won 76-46 while the Dal men won 113-73. The teams play again Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. Here’s a recap of Saturday’s contests.
Women
Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Reese Baxendale each had 16 points and five rebounds for the Panther while Lauren Fleming had 11 points and eight boards.
Chloe Wilson had 15 points to lead Dalhousie, which went 0-for-12 from three-point territory.
UPEI held 17-5, 41-21 and 55-26 quarter leads.
The third-place Panthers are 14-3 while the last-place Tigers are 2-16.
Men
The Tigers pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back.
Dalhousie led 24-22 after the first quarter before outscoring the visitors 28-10 in the second quarter to take a 52-32 lead to the third. They increased the lead to 81-54 after three quarters.
Alex Carson had a game-high 23 points off the bench for the Tigers while Keevan Veinot had 15 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Elijah Miller had 13 points on 5-for-14 shooting and seven rebounds to lead the Panthers while Dakelle Brooks scored 13 points off the bench.
The first-place Tigers are 17-1 while the last-place Panthers are 3-14.
