Muirhead scores winner in third as Western Capitals defeat Campbellton 5-4

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Carson MacKinnon, Zach Biggar and captain Brodie MacArthur each had three points Friday as the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals beat the Campbellton Tigers for the second straight night.

Kallum Muirhead scored the winner on a power play with 3:54 remaining as the Caps won 5-4 in Maritime Junior Hockey League action in Campbellton, N.B. The Caps won 3-0 Thursday in Summerside.

On Friday, Summerside led 2-1 after the first period but went to the third tied 4-4.

Carson MacKinnon had two goals and an assist while Muirhead scored a pair and Cam Roberts had a single.

Biggar and MacArthur each had three assists while Isaac Wilson, Jacob Arsenault and Ed McNeill all had one. MacArthur now has 100 points (41 goals and 59 assists) in 45 games this season and 349 for his career – three points behind Duane Saulnier for the league’s all-time record.

Bedeque’s Coleton Perry scored twice for the Tigers while William Basque and Connor Richard each had one.

Alec MacVicar had 30 saves in the win while Tristan Gray stopped 33 shots in the loss.

Summerside was 2-for-2 on the power play while Campbellton was 1-for-3.

The Capitals, who have won four straight games, improved to 37-6-0-2 while the Tigers are 23-15-3-2.

The Capitals host the Truro Bearcats Sunday at 7 p.m. at Credit Union Place.
