Moncton uses big fourth to defeat Storm

MONCTON, N.B. — Desmond Lee had nine of his 16 points in the fourth quarter Sunday as the Moncton Magic pulled away from the Island Storm.

The Magic defeated their rivals 99-81 in Moncton in National Basketball League of Canada play.

Moncton led 22-21 after the first quarter but the game was tied at 43 at the half and at 68 heading to the fourth.

Billy White had 22 points to lead the Magic while Wayne McCullough, a former Storm player, had 15 and Denzell Taylor chipped in 13 rebounds and 12 points.

Nathaniel Wright and Antwon Lillard led the Storm with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Johnathan Loyd had 14 points.

Robbie Robinson chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds while Jailan Haslem had a team-high 13 boards off the bench.

Storm had better shooting percentages from floor (42-40) and three-point territory (40-36) but only hit five of its 12 free throws (42 per cent) while the Magic went 17-for-27 (63 per cent).

Moncton leads the league with a 9-2 record while the Storm is 5-8 after losing six straight games. The Storm plays its third straight game against Moncton on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m.
