Mill River Classic includes three age divisions

O'LEARY, P.E.I. — The Mill River Classic Minor Hockey Tournament gets underway Friday morning at three West Prince rinks.

The sixth annual tournament features 27 teams in three divisions (atom, peewee and bantam). Four rinks will be used as the Tyne Valley peewees will play a home game against Tignish at the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre Saturday at 3 p.m.

There are games at Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton and at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre Friday at 8:30 a.m. to kick off the three-day Classic. O’Leary and Alberton atoms will meet at the Jacques Cartier Arena while O’Leary and Summerside peewees will meet in O’Leary.

The first bantam games will be played in both O’Leary and Alberton at 10:50 a.m. and the Tignish Credit Union Arena gets in on the action Friday at 11 a.m. when the Tignish peewees take on Southside.

There are 22 games on Friday’s schedule, concluding with an 8:10 p.m. bantam game in Alberton between Bedford White and Evangeline White.

Action resumes Saturday at 8:10 a.m. in Alberton and 8:30 a.m. in O’Leary. The final round-robin games – Games 38 and 39 – are scheduled for 7 and 8:10 p.m. Saturday in O’Leary.

All of the playoff games will be played Sunday in O’Leary, starting with the bantam semifinals at 8 and 9:10 a.m., peewee semifinals at 10:20 and 11:30 a.m. Following the bantam final at 12:40 p.m. the atom semifinals go at 1:50 and 3 p.m. The peewee and atom finals are scheduled for 4:10 and 5:20 p.m., respectively.
