McRae paces Red Wings past Maniacs

ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. — Michael McRae scored twice to lead the Western Red Wings to a 6-1 victory over the Eastern Maniacs in an Island Junior Hockey League game at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Sunday night.

Jack DesRoches, Chase Gaudette, Isaac Knox and Sam Hackett netted single goals for the Red Wings, who improved to 5-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Silas Handrahan and Chandler Wood each added two assists. Kennedy Gallant, Chandler DesRoches, Bradley Campbell, Thomas Rennie and Alex Morrissey also collected helpers.

Tyson McInnis, assisted by Nick Steele and Dawson Palmer, netted the lone goal for the Maniacs (0-5-0).

Western held a 1-0 lead after the first period and scored four unanswered second-period goals to take a 5-0 advantage into the second intermission.

The Red Wings also dominated in the shots-on-goal department, outshooting the Maniacs 51-19.

Cole Gallant was the winning goaltender.

The Red Wings received the game's only minor penalty in the third period.
