SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Prince Edward Island Masters Curling Championships begin today at the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside.
Five men’s teams and three women’s rinks are competing in the modified triple-knockout competition for curler 60 and older.
The Sandy Hope rink from the Cornwall Curling Club and the Lou Nowlan foursome from the Silver Fox are both back looking to defend their titles.
Other men’s teams include the Paul Arsenault and Bill Hope squads from Cornwall, the Blair Jay team from the host club, and the Clair Sweet squad from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary. The Sheila Compton rink from the Silver Fox and the Shirley Berry foursome from Cornwall round out the women’s entries.
Draws take place daily at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. from today through Sunday. The C finals are slated for Monday at 10 a.m. If a championship round is required it will be played Monday at 2:30 and, if necessary, Tuesday at 10 a.m.
The top teams in each championship will compete in the Maritime Masters at the Cornwall Curling Club from March 12-14.
